2. A pollutant may cause long- or short-term damage by changing the growth rate of plant or animal species, or by interfering with human amenities, comfort, health, or property values.
3. Depending upon the form in which they persist after being released into the environment, the pollutants are categorized into two types, namely
a) Primary and,
b) Secondary pollutants.
