Answer:

Pollution is the contamination of the earth’s environment that contaminates and interferes with human health and ecosystem functioning. Pollution is divided into 5 types – Air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution, and radiation pollution.

One of the main causes of pollution is the industries. Most of the industrial processes like smelting of ores, refining, manufacturing release harmful gases into the air. Smoke is emitted by chemical and paper factories, brick kilns, refineries and smelting plants, and burning of fossil fuels in big and small factories that ignore pollution norms. This leads to air pollution. Rapid industrialization generates a wide range of products in sewage which ultimately join the water sources. Almost all the rivers of India are polluted with industrial effluents. This leads to water pollution.

Vehicles are one of the main causes of pollution. The burning of fossil fuels in the internal combustion engines of Vehicles releases poisonous gases which are becoming the most serious problem of the technological age. The exhaust emission from diesel engines releases Carbon monoxide, Hydrocarbons, Sulphur dioxide, and many organic acids. This leads to air pollution. The number of vehicles is fast increasing in the modern world. Traffic noise is particularly severe in urban areas. This leads to noise pollution. Fast running trains also cause noise pollution along the rail tracks. Taking off and landing of airplanes cause unbearable noise pollution. In rural areas, farm machines make a lot of noise.

Pollution leads to a bad effect on humans as they may get many diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, polio, typhoid, dysentery, cholera, diarrhea, jaundice, tinnitus, etc.

Pollution also leads to a bad effect on plants and animals. Metallic contaminants like arsenic and lead are the chief pollutants for the plants. Smog is also harmful to plants. For animals, the chief pollutant is fluoride that causes fluorosis.

There are many ways to control pollution. The use of the public transport system and organic farming can control pollution.   We need to save energy to control pollution. No smoking zones should be kept in public places to control pollution.
