In the present era, on the one hand, man takes pride in his achievements and control over natural forces and on the other hand he is trying to find ways by which he can undo the damage he has caused due to his wantonly exploiting the resources which he had to share with other species of the planet. Behind his success lies the dark reality of the harm he has done to Mother Nature. Pollution of land, water and air has increased to an extent where our planet, the only planet to sustain life, is losing its capacity to sustain life.

Pollution of land has made it infertile and barren. The flora and fauna of once beautiful expanses of land is depleting, making numerous plant and animals endangered. The dense forest has been converted into concrete jungle or desert and rivers have become scanty.

Water pollution, caused by industrial wastes, has threatened aquatic life and many species are on the verge of extinction. Once life-giving rivers have been turned muddy and unsafe to use. Scarcity of fresh water is coming as a grave concern for governments as well as people.

Acid rain, holes in ozone layer, smog and toxins in the air have rendered it unsafe and the time is not far when we'll have to keep masks on 24 x 7 or carry oxygen cylinder to survive.

If we don't heed the clarion call we are in for the doom. The only solution is to leave our greed aside and learn to respect nature in all its form to co-operate and co-exist .
