Poly bags are also called polythene bags. Plastics give out harmful gases upon heating or burning which causes air pollution and many health problems. They are made of petrochemicals, which is what makes them non-renewable and a risk to the health of the planet. They are a hazard to wildlife animals, if they are not disposed properly.

Chemicals in plastic which give them their rigidity or flexibility (flame retardants, bisphenols, phthalates and other harmful chemicals) are oily poisons that repel water and stick to petroleum-based objects like plastic debris. So, the toxic chemicals that leach out of plastics can accumulate on other plastics.
