A tollon reagent is a chemical reagent which determines the presence of some aldehyde ketone with aldehyde and aromatic aldehyde active groups which can be mixed with aldehyde. A reagent consists of a solution of silver nitrate, ammonia, and some sodium hydroxide (to maintain the original ph of an reagent solution). It was named after its finder, German chemist, Bernard tollon. a positive test with a tollon reagent is demonstrated by an original emission of silver, often showing a typical "silver mirror" on the inner surface of the reacting vessel.
Fehling's solution is a chemical reagent used to differentiate between water-soluble carbohydrate and ketone functional groups, and as a test for reducing sugars and non-reducing sugars, supplementary to the Tollens' reagent test. The test was developed by German chemist Hermann von Fehling in 1849.
