if you meant by splitting the middle term method, it is shown below:-

3x^2-x-4\\= 3x^2-4x+3x-4\\=x(3x-4)+1(3x-4)\\=(3x-4)(x+1)\\\\

Hence the factorised expression will be (3x-4)(x+1).
