Poompuhar, earlier called as Kaveripoompttinaam, is a great import city of horses from Arab countries and finished goods from Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

I was also a great port for cente for spices from South India.Silk appears to be a major item of export from here.

the beach here is also a major attraction and the tourist department have made efforts for the destination.
