Thank you for this important question.
(i)Movement for Democracy in Nepal: Nepal is a South Asian country that is mostly located within the Himalayas. In April 2006, there was a mass movement for democracy in Nepal. The demands of this movement were:
(i) Restoration of Democracy.
(ii) Power to All-Party Government.
(iii) New Constituent Assembly.
This movement was a result of several events. King Brindera who had agreed to create Nepal a constitutional monarchy was mysteriously murdered in 2001 with his family. The successor, King Gyanendra had not only rejected the popularly elected government but also disolved democratic government in 2005. This led to mass protests of at least 3-5 million people. As a result of this, democracy was restored in Nepal.
(ii) Struggle for Water in Bolivia: Bolivia is a Latin American country that has been struck by economic crisis. Bolivia experienced mass mobilization against the increased prices of water in 2000.
Due to the pressure of the World Bank, Bolivian government gave the municipal water supply of Cochabamba(Bolivian city) to private multinational company. The company exploited the locals and the water bill increased up to four times the bill earlier.
As there protests grew, the government agreed to negotiate but did not meet the demands of the protestors. This led to aggressive violent mobbing which resulted in a martial. However, in February 2000, the company was out of the country and the democratic rights of the people were slowly being given to the people.
