Answer:

The population of a town increases by 20% every year. If it's present population is 216,000, what is it's population after 2 years

Present population : 216,000

Increase per year = 20%

Increase in 1st year = 20/100 × 216000= 216000/5 = 43200

Population at end of 1st year after 20% increase = 216000 + 43200 = 259200

Increase during 2nd year = 20/100 × 259200 = 259200/5 = 51840

Population at end of 2nd year after 20% increase = 259200 + 51840 = 311040

In two years the population will be 311040

Population 1 year before - less 20% increase

80/100 × 216000 = 2160 × 80 = 172800

Population 2 years before - less 20% increase

80/100 × 172800 = 80 × 1728 = 138240

2 years before the population was 138240

Answer :The population after two years will be 311040. The population 2 years ago was 138240
