The number of literates in the village are - 403.

Given - Population

Find - Relation between number of literates and illiterates

Solution - Let the number of illiterates be x. So, number of literates = (895 - x).

Forming equation -

895 - x = x + 10%

x + x = 895 - 10/100*895

2x = 895 - 89.5

2x = 805.5

x = 402.75

Rounding off as the value is number of people.

x = 403

Number of illiterates = 403

Number of literates = 895 - 403

Number of literates = 492

Hence, number of literates and illiterates are 403 and 492.
