increase in population = 10272 - 9600

= 672

let male were x

therefore increase in male = 8% * ×

= 8x /100 = 2x / 25

female were = 9600 - x

increase in female = (9600 - x )*5%

= (9600 - x ) *5 / 100

= 9600 /20 - x/20

= 480 - x/20

total increase = 2x / 25 + 480 - x/20

40x -25x / 500 +480 = 672

15x / 500 = 672 - 480

15 x = 192 * 500

x = 192 * 500 / 15

x = 64 * 100

x = 6400

therefore male were 6400
