Porifera means pore bearer which is an animal phylum consisting of the organism commonly called sponges. Sponges lack organs and tissues. The body of sponges is like a sac that is perforated with numerous pores.
The three layers of body wall include:• The outer layer consists of flat polygonal cells called pinacocytes. • The middle layer consists of gelatinous protein, a range of mobile cells and a skeleton of calcareous or siliceous spicules.• An inner layer consists of flagellated cells called collar cells or choanocytes.
