(i) How did the position of Cl and ci get fixed in the modern periodic table?
(ii) What do you think? Should hydrogen be placed in the group 17 of halogens or group 1 of alkali metals in the modern periodic table?

1)CL and CI are isotopes there fore isotopes hame same properties but different masses there fore Mendeleev dose not given the fix position of cl and CI
but henery mosely made the periodic table with increasing order of their atomic number
there fore isotopes has given the fix position
2)i dont think because H has similarities with alkali metals as well as halogens.

hydrogen have property to gain an electron to complete it support like that halogens have.similarly hydrogen have many property which is shown by alkali metal
eg it's hydrate ,so it is placed in both alkali as well as halogens group.in some periodic table it is kept between and in above ( alone) in periodic table.
any elements in periodic table placed according to its atomic number which is arrange by seeing it's periodic function, valency property etc so that it is easier to know about periodic table like that cl and cr have
hope it may help you
