Developmental aid: It refers to the assistance given to rural communities, in form of monetary value or setting up work places for them. This aid may be of any type, economic, environmental, social, and political.
This aid is different from humanitarian aid as this aid focuses on alleviating poverty in the long term, rather than a short term response. So basically, they target long term goals.
Positive impact:
1- Leads to long term growth taking place in villages.
2- Helps to build infrastructure making life easier for the people living there.
3- Leads to better living standards of people
4- Probable job security depending on project type.
Negative impacts:
1- It looks at long term goals rather than short term, so the outcome will be experienced gradually.
2- People might end up depending too much on this type of aid.
3- If developmental aid is taken by foreign donors, that will lead to dependency to increase and they might exploit the common labor.
4- In usual cases the aid aimed at the rural communities never really reaches them, in fact gets stolen, or embezzled by the authorities, so lack of check and balance may result in no outcome at all.
