potassium is metal which have high tendency to donate an electron .
chlorine is non metal which have high tendency to accept an electron .
if two atom one metal and other is non metal then its attached to form ionic bond.
first potassium loss one electron
e.g K -------> K+ + e^-
this is known as oxidation reaction .
now ,
chlorine accept an electron
e.g Cl + e^- -----> Cl-
this reaction is known as reduction reaction .

add both equation equation .
K + Cl ----> K+Cl- ---> KCl

Clorine is an oxidising argent as it is non metal.

And potassium is oxidisting while calorie is
