Potassium chlorate, KCIO, decomposes upon heating as follows:
2KCIO3(s) 2KCI(s) + 302(g)
In an experiment, a 1.61-g sample containing KCIO3 was heated and the oxygen
gas produced by the reaction was collected over water at 26°C. The water vapour
pressure at 26°C is 0.033 atm and the external pressure during experiment is 1.007
atm. Calculate the percentage of KClO3 in the sample if the volume of oxygen gas
collected was 475 mL.
