Potassium chloride is added to water and stirred . a salt solution is obtained which is then boiled leaving behind a residue.
Give a reason why the above experiment would not be possible if calcium carbonate is taken , in place of potassium chloride.

This experiment would not be possible because on heating CaCo3 it will get converted into CaO and CO2 whichi will escape without leaving any residue.

The reason why calcium carbonate can not be taken is because it is an insoluble salt

Calcium carbonate does not dissolve in water.


All carbonates are insoluble except:

a) Sodium carbonate

b) Potassium carbonate, and

c) Ammonium carbonate
