You can re-write the above reaction as:

K + H2O ------->KOH+H2, here we can balance on each side element by element.

Lets start with hydrogen, we have one hydrogen at the reactants (dont consider the OH). So we put a two to H(OH). Due to balancing , we have two OH groups in the reactants now but one in the products and therefore we need to add a 2 to K as well. So the final balanced reaction is,

2K + 2H(OH) ======> 2KOH+H2

or 2K+2H2O=>2KOH+H2.
