we have to find the potential energy of electron in the second orbit of Li²⁺ ion.

solution : potential energy of electron in nth orbit is given by, U = -27.2 × Z²/n² eV

Where Z is atomic number and n is orbit around of which electron is revolving.

for Li²⁺ ion,

Z = 3 , n = 2 [for second orbit ]

so, U = -27.2 × 3²/2²

= -27.2 × 9/4

= -27.2 × 2.25

= -61.2 eV

Therefore the potential energy of electron in the second orbit of Li²⁺ ion is -61.2 eV.
