Usually, non-polar solvents like kerosene are used for storing alkali metals or substances.
Benzene is a polar solvent which reacts with sodium or Potassium very vigorously. It is very expensive, has a low boiling point, and is very toxic too. Since it has low bp, it can easily get evaporated.
When Potassium in any form for eg. KMnO₄ (Potassium permanganate) comes in contact with Benzene, there is an immediate oxidation reaction, which results in the formation of benzoic acid.
