Pour a little water in a small transparent bottle and add a drop of milk to it.Trap smoke from an incense stick in the upper part of the bottle.Now, immediately with the help of a laser torch let a thin beam of light fall at an acute angle on the surface of water.Note down your observations and also give reasons for your answer.Write down the role of milk and smoke in this activity.

The light bends while traveling from the air to water. This is caused due to refraction of light. Air is a rarer medium, while water is a denser medium. So light bends while traveling from a rarer to a denser medium.
Milk and smoke are added to the water to make the path of light visible.
