It is said that, 'a poor
man neither lives here nor there'. That means a poor person is not able to make
the two ends meet, he struggles throughout his life on earth and when he dies
he does not have enough good deeds in his karmic balance. So he does not have a
chance to secure a place in heaven.
In olden days poor people had to take loans from the moneylenders. But as they were poor they could not pay back the loans. So a son would have to work hard to pay his father's loan even after his death. In this way the poor became more poor. There was no chance to come out of poverty.
Poverty is like a vicious circle. The poor people do not have enough money to buy food. So they are prone to be weak and fall a prey to diseases. They live in unhygienic conditions. They do not have proper medical facilities. So they have to borrow money.
They cannot afford to send their children to school. As they are illiterate they cannot get good jobs. Many of them face disguised unemployment. So their income is low. Due to this their standard of living is very poor. That is why poverty is a curse to humanity.
