1.Original Jurisdiction: Cases which come directly to the supreme court are under its original jurisdiction and it settles disputes between Centre and State or Between States
2.Appellate Jurisdiction: It hears appeals against some decisions of the High Courts, the cases concerned to civil, criminal and Constitutional matters.
3.Judicial Review:
The Supreme Court can review any judgment given by itself and also given the power to withdraw the case if it feels an important question of law is involved.The Power of Judicial review is to decide the Constitutionality of the acts passed by the Legislatures.

The functions and powers of the Supreme Court are:
- A. Original Jurisdiction:—
- Interpretation of the constitution –All cases where interpretation of the constitution is required can be directly filed in the Supreme Court of India.
- Centre-State disputes- All disputes between the centre and the states fall within the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.
- Fundamental Rights-Cases relating to the denying of the fundamental rights can originally brought before the Supreme Court.
- Disputes between two or more states falls under the original jurisdiction of the supreme court.
- Appellate Jurisdiction:—
- The Supreme Court has powers to grant special leave to appeal against the judgements delivered by any court in the country.
3.The Supreme court act as custodian of the Indian constitution.
4. The Supreme Court act as guardian of the Fundamental rights.
5. The Supreme Court provides advise to the president or the council of Ministers whosoever seeks it on any constitutional or any matter of Law.
6. The Supreme court act as a Court of Record.
