Answer:

P = 2 D

The power is positive, so will be the focal length.

Hence, the Nature of the lens is Converging.

We know, P = 1/f

So, Focal length = 1/P

⇒ f = 1/2

⇒ f = 0.5 m

Hence, the focal length of the lens = 0.5 m.

Extra Information:

  • Power of a lens is he reciprocal of the focal length (in m).
  • That is, P = 1/f.
  • The Si Unit of Power is Dioptre.
  • One Dioptre is the power of a lens with focal length 1 m.
  • If the focal length of the lens is positive, then the power of the lens will be positive too, similarly, if the focal length is negative the power of the lens will be negative.
  • According to the sign convention, the focal length of a convex lens (Converging) is positive and the focal length of the concave lens (Diverging) is negative.

Given :

✠ Power of the lens is 2 D .

To find :

✠ What will be the nature of lens ?

Options given :

  1. Converging
  2. Diverging
  3. Neither converging nor diverging
  4. None of the above

Solution :

❍ Already We know that ,

 \sf{ \: P =  \frac{1}{f} }

❍ The focal length to be converging .

Now,

 \sf \: \sf The \:  Focal \:  length =  \frac{1}{p}

 \sf \: 【★】 f = 1 \\ \sf【★】 f = 0.5 m \:

Final answer will be :

❍ Focal length will be 0.5 m .

Hence, Option A is correct

Converging is the correct option .
