Power sharing is the very spirit of democracy-
. A democratic govt is the govt for the people and by the people. People elect a representative who rule them on their behalf.
. Many such representatives are alloted for different functions within a democracy.
. They share power. Such a sharing is known as horizontal sharing of power or check and balance sharing of power.
. On the other hand, the three levels of govt also share powers but for different levels, i.e., the village level, the district or state level and the central level within a democracy. Such a method is known as vertical division of power.
. Hence, it can be concluded that within a democracy power is shared amonv the different tiers of govt as well as the different levels of the govt.
