Powers of the President
The president is the head of the Indian Republic.
There are 6 powers of president :
1)Legislative Powers
☆The President summons and prorogues the parliament twice in a year.
☆He can dissolve the Lok sabha on the advice of the Council of Ministers.
☆No bill can become a law without his approval.
2)Executive Powers
☆Being the head of the state, he make all the important official appointments as the prime minister the council of Ministers, judges of Supreme Court etc.
☆He is entitled to sign all treaties.
☆He administers all the union territories.
3)Judicial Powers
☆He alone has the power to grant pardon.
☆He can also pardon a death sentence on appeal.
☆He is not answerable to any court of law for these action.
4)Financial Powers
☆All money bills are introduced in the Lok Sabha with the permission of the President .
☆He has the power to sanction money from the contingency funds.
☆His most important financial power is the presentation of the annual budget of the country.
5)Emergency Powers
☆The president of India can impose an emergency in the country in case of financial crisis .
☆He can declare a state of emergency in the whole or a part of the country in case of foreign aggression .
☆In case of failure of constitutional machinery or in a deadlock situation because of political uncertainties.
6)Martial Powers
☆He is the supreme commander of the defence forces of India.
