p+q= 40..... (i)
pq= 675×3.....(ii)
We'll solve these two equations by substitution method in which we'll find the value of any one variable from equation and then put it into second equation.
In equation (i)
p+q= 40 => p= 40-q
Now putting this value of p from equation (i) in equation (ii), we get-
(40-q)q = 675×3
40q- q²= 2025
0= q²-40q+2025
Now you can further solve this equation by splitting middle term or completing the square
