pq is drawn parallel to to the base bc of a triangle abc intersecting ab at p and ac at q . if ab =4ap cq = 12cm then find the length of aq
Answers
Answer:
A line PQ is drawn parallel to the base BC of ΔABC which meets sides AB and AC at points P and Q respectively.
If AP=31PB; find the value of :AreaofΔAPQAreaofΔABC

Answer
Given,AP=1/3PB
So,AP/PB=1/3
In Δ APQ and Δ ABC,
As PQ || BC, corresponding angles are equal
∠APQ=∠ABC and ∠AQP=∠ACB
Hence, ΔAPQ ~ ΔABC by AA criterion for similarity
So,
Area of ΔABC/ Area of ΔAPQ=AB2/AP2=42/12=16:1
[AP/PB=1/3 so, AB/AP=4/1]
