Gujarat is the fastest growing and most urbanized state in India with 42.60% urban population as compared to 31.14% urban population of India. During the decade 2001-2011, the state of Gujarat has seen a growth rate of 36% in urbanization as compared to 31% in India. By the year 2030, Gujarat is projected to have 66% urbanization. However, high rate of development and urbanization has not come without the associated problems of the increasing burden on the limited urban land, housing and infrastructure of the state. There are an estimated 6.5 lakh slum houses in urban areas of Gujarat.
