Consider UPQ and UTS.

Since U is the midpoint of PS,

PU = US

Angle UPQ = Angle UTS (alternate angles formed when parallel lines PQ and SR are cut by the line PS)

Angle PUQ = Angle TUS (opposite angles)

One side and angle at its ends of ∆UPQ is equal to that of ∆ UTS. Hence they are equal triangles and the sides opposite to equal angles of equal triangles are aslo equal.

Therefore ST = PQ = 3cm
