Given : Sonu ranked mth from the top and nth from the bottom in a class.

To Find : How many students are there in the class?

Solution:

Sonu ranked mth from the top in a class.

Hence m-1  students are above Sonu

Sonu ranked nth from the bottom  in a class.

Hence n - 1 students are below Sonu

Total Students  =  Students above Sonu + Sonu + Students below Sonu

students above Sonu     m - 1

Sonu                                   1

Students below Sonu      n-1

Total Students   = m - 1  + 1  + n - 1

=> Total Students = m + n - 1

m + n - 1  students are there in the class
