Based on the colour of the precipitate like white, bright yellow and light yellow we can find out the given substance is chloride, iodide or bromide respectively.
Procedure
- Take 3 test tubes. Name it as A, B and C.
- Add 5g of salt in each test tube.
- After that we have to add 5 ml of Silver Nitrate solution to each of the test tubes.
- If white precipitate is formed then it is chloride.
- If light yellow precipitate is formed then it is bromide.
- If Bright yellow precipitate is formed then it is iodide.
- This is how we have to confirm the halides presence.
