Echo which was once confined to a scene where a person shouts facing a hilly terrain receives back his/her “shout” after a certain time has been subjected to various methods of research under Sound & Acoustics section. Few of the applications are:

Civilian ApplicationsHydro-graphic studies

The hydro-graphic studies which are performed to measure depth of large water bodies like seas or oceans. The time taken for a sound wave to reach the seabed and bounce back as an echo to the ship helps in calculating the depth of water body at that location. Similar instruments like these are also used for discovery of marine life (using passive sonars), shipwreck, lost(underwater) cities and even minerals.

And also echo is use to identify a sea depth

Echo is the repeating of sound that is heard by the gap of 0.01 sec. Some uses of echos are :

✳ Mainly in mega phone :- it send the sound in particular direction without spreading it in all direction.

✳ In stethoscopes :- in it there are reflector on surface inside tube which amplify sound.

✳ Generally in the auditorium or halls some times sound board is placed to increase echoes.
