Pranam!

Here's a good question. Though it's not too tough to solve but still this is an interesting one. Give this one a try.
Explaination needed!

Question :-

• For a polynomial p(x), the value of p(3) is −2. Which of the following must be true about p(x)?

A) x−5 is a factor of p(x).
B) x−2 is a factor of p(x).
C) x+2 is a factor of p(x).

Hey Mate,

Here is your answer,

We Know that the remainder theorem states that if we divide a polynomial f(x) by (x - a) then the remainder for the polynomial is f(a)

In this case p(3) is divided by (x - 3) to give remainder as - 2

So option is (D)

Hope it helps:)

Answer:

your a answer is (A) x-5 is of p(x).

Step-by-step explanation:

in the above question p(3) is (-2), I. e the value of x should be 3 to become p(x)= -2 .

now we will put x=3, one given option one by one and check whose result will be (-2), and we get our answer as option (A) .

p(x) = x-5

p(3) = 3-5

= -2
