Let the CP of 1st horse be Rs. x
Gain% = 20% Gain= Rs. 20x/100
S.P. = 20x/100 + x
= Rs.120x/100 -------(1)
Let the CP of 2nd horse be Rs. y
Loss % = 20% Loss= Rs. 20y/ 100
SP = y - 20y/100
= 80y/100 -------(2)
Since, (1)=(2)
》120x/100 = 80y/100
》 120x = 80y/100 × 100
》 6x = 4y
》 x= 4y/6
》 x= 2y/3
Overall Gain/ Loss = Gain-Loss
= 20x/100 - 20y/100
Put (x=2y/3)
=20×2y/300- 20y/100
=40y/300 - 20y/100
= -20y/300
i.e. Overall Loss = Rs. 20y/300
Total C.P.= x+y
= 2y/3+y
= Rs. 5y/3
Overall loss%
= Loss/Cp × 100
= (20y/300)/(5y/3) ×100
= 60y/1500y × 100
= 60y/15y %
=60/15%
= 4% Loss.
Gain% = 20% Gain= Rs. 20x/100
