Question :

Praveen spends 20% of his pocket money on transport in ₹60 on his breakfast. If he spent 15% of the remaining money on his lunch and had ₹340 left, what was his pocket money?

Solution :

\sf{{Let \: his\: pocket\:}{money \: be \: ₹x}}.

Then, money spent on transport = 20% of ₹x

→ \frac{20}{100}  \times ₹x = ₹( \frac{x}{5} )

\sf{{money \: spent\: on \: }{transportation \: and \: breakfast \:  = ₹( \frac{x}{5}  + 60)}}

\sf{{money \: }{left \:  = ₹x - ( \frac{x}{5}  + 60)}} = ₹( \frac{4}{5} )x - 60

\sf{{Now ,\: 15\%\: of \: \: ₹( \frac{4x}{5}  - 60)  \: }{was \:spent \: on \: lunch }}

\sf{{Then\: the\:amount \:  }{left \: was \: 100\% - 15\% = 85\% \: of \:  \: ₹( \frac{4x}{5}  - 60)}}

\sf{{85\%  \: of \:  \: ₹( \frac{4x}{5}  - 60) = ₹340  \: }{  \:  \:  \: or \:  \frac{85}{100}  \times ( \frac{4x}{5}  - 6) = 340}}

\sf{{or \:  \:  \:  \:  \frac{4x}{5} - 60 =  \: }{ \frac{340 \times 100}{85}  \:}}

\sf{{or \:  \:  \:  \:  \frac{4x}{5} - 60  = \:   }{400}}

\sf{{or \:  \:  \:  \frac{4x}{5} \: =  }{ \: 460}}

\sf{{or \:  \:  \:  \: x = \: }{ \frac{5}{4}  \times 460 = 575}}

\sf{{Hence, \: his\: }{pocket \: money \: was\:₹ 575.}}
