Thickness of the copper wire is 1/15 cm.
Explanation:
Given:
- Diameter of the copper rod = 1 cm
- Length of the copper rod = 8 cm
- Length of the wire = 18 m = 1800 cm [ 1 m = 100 cm]
Required to Find:
- Thickness of the wire i.e., diameter of the wire.
Solution:
Since,
copper rod and wire both are in shape of cylinder. and copper rod is drawn in to a wire,
Therefore,
Volume of the copper rod = Volume of the copper wire.
Let radius of the copper wire be r cm.
Since diameter of the copper rod is 1 cm
So, Radius of the copper rod = 1/2 cm = 0.5 cm
Now,
=> πR²H = πr²h
[Assuming that R and H be the radius and length (height) of the copper rod and r and h be the radius and length (height) of the copper wire]
=> R²H = r²h
=>(0.5)²*8 = r²*1800
=>2 = r²*1800
=>r² = 2/1800
=> r² = 1/900
=> r =√(1/900)
=> r = 1/30 cm
Therefore, Diameter of the wire = 2*r = 2*(1/30) = 1/15 cm.
So, the required thickness of the wire is 1/15 cm.
