TOPIC :- HYBRIDISATION

CONCEPT

In carbon atom, four hybridisations are possible namely sp,sp2,sp3 in which p-character increases from sp to sp3.

  • Greater the p-character ,larger is the bond length.

  • Also, the carbons of ethane are sp3 hybridised having largest bond length.

  • The carbon of ethane has sp2 hybridisation while that of ethylene has sp.

BOND DISTANCE

Bond distance is directly proportional to bond length.Hence, bond distance between respective carbon nuclie follows the order ethylene < ethene < ethane .

BOND ENERGY

Ethyne are least stable and hence they have less bond energy.

Bond energy follows the order ethylene < ethene < ethane .
