Its simple, just add the lone pairs and no. of sigma bonds of any atom and match the answer with the sum of power of s and p orbitals.
let me give you an example , in H2O molecule oxygen has 2 lone pairs and is making 2 sigma bonds . i.e. 2 + 2 = 4
For this hybridization will be Sp3
because the S has power 1 while P has power 3 , add it , the answer will be 4 , its matching ...
