It's just Hydrolysis of Weak Acid

Explanation:

  • Sodium Acetate CH_3COONa gets dissociated into respective ions first.

CH_3COO^-Na^+ (s) --> CH_3COO^- + Na^+ (Cation)

  • Hydrolysis of acetate anion is running parallel to dissolution:

CH3COO^- + H_2O --> CH_3COOH + OH^-

  • The solution is not neutral but alkaline.

Acetate (a strong conjugate base) tears off protons from water till the concentrations of CH_3COO^-, H^+\ and\ CH_3COOH molecules will reach those that comply with K_A of the weak acetic acid
