Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide gases are responsible for the acid rain.

  • Acid rain is one of the most dangerous natural hazards which is occurring in large amount in the present time, due to the presence of air pollutants like the sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide gases.
  • These gases react with the other elements of the atmosphere which finally creates acidic substances. These acidic substances get mixed with the rainwater and produce acid rain.
  • This acid rain is one of the major factors behind the discoloration of the white marble of the Taj Mahal.
