----------------------------------------

Here is the solution:

----------------------------------------

Market Price = Rs 2500

Find the price after 5% discount:

5% discount = 0.05 x 2500 = Rs 125

Price after discount = 2500 - 125 = Rs 2375

Find the price after a further 3% discount:

3% discount = 0.03 x 2375 = Rs 71.25

Price after discount = Rs 2375 - Rs 71.25 = Rs 2303.75

Find the discount obtained:

Discount = 2500 - 2303.75 = Rs 196.25

Discount Percentage = 192.25 ÷ 2500 x 100 = 7.85%

Answer: The final discount she got was 7.85% which is not equal to a single discount of 8%.

SRIRANGA: 100×(95/100)×(97/100)=92.15. 100-92.15=7.85

Given

Market price = Rs 2500

First discount = 5%

2500 x 5/100 = 125

2500 - 125 = 2375 .

Price after 5% discount is Rs 2375

_____________________________

Second discount = 3%

2375 x 3/100 = 71.25

2375 - 71.25 = 2303.75

Price after 3% discount is Rs 2303.75

______________________________

Final discount

2500 - 2303.75 = Rs 196.25.

______________________________

Final Discount percentage

Discount percent = discount / market price x 100

= 196.25/2500 x 100

= 7.85 %
