The preamble was amended one time on eighteen Gregorian calendar month 1976, with most of the opposition being imprisoned throughout the Emergency in the Republic of India, the national leader government pushed through many changes within the 42nd modification of the constitution. Through this modification, the words "socialist" and "secular" were added between the words "Sovereign" and "democratic" and also the words "unity of the Nation" were modified to "unity and integrity of the Nation"
