⭐ SCALE - A scale is the most inportant compoment of a map. Scale is used in a map to measure the actual ground distance between two places. Ground distance is reduced to smaller size in appropriate ratio to show in a map as scale.
⭐ The scale is of three different types.
(1) Statement scale - When the ratio between the distance of two places on the map and actual distance on the ground is expressed by statement, then it is called statement scale.
E. G. 1 cm = 5 km.
(2) Representative Fraction Scale -
R. F. = numerator / denominator
= map distance / ground distance
E. G. 1:5000
(3) Graphical scale - It includes some sub types like Linear scale, Diagonal scale, Comparative scale and Vernier Scale.
⭐ Scale is very important to be present in a map. The scale of a map is important in understanding the actual defence of a country or also it is important in survey.
