Preparation of Hydrogen
Hydrogen gas is prepared in the laboratory by the action of dilute hydrochloric acid or dilute sulphuric acid on granulated zinc.
Zn + 2HCL → ZnCL₂ + H₂↑
Zn + H2SO₄ → ZnSO₄ + H₂↑
Granulated zinc is commercial zinc obtained from molten zinc. It contains impurities like copper which have a slight catalytic effect on the reaction and speeds up the reaction.

Hydrogen can be obtained in laboratory by the action of dilute sulphuric acid or dilute hydrochloric acid on zinc granules.
Take zinc granules in a woulf's bottle and fix a two holed cork. now from one hole fit a thistle funnel and from second hole of cork fix delivery tube. Now add dil.sulphuric acid through thistle funnel.Dil.H2SO4 reacts with zinc to liberate H2 gas. this released gas is collected by downward displacement of water.
Dil. H2SO4 + Zn →ZnSO4 +H2
