• Name of the Book, Author :
Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
• Summary of the story :
He is one of my favorite characters. He symbolises the beauty of analytical reasoning. For Holmes, it is art for the art's own sake. The intellectual joy of having uncovered the truth is his greatest reward.
Though he is the greatest fictional detective of all time, his methods are so real that they are adopted in detective work all around the world. Needless to say, this great work has inspired dozens of other works of mystery and crime genre. He influenced and revolutionised modern forensic investigation. Who could've thought that a fictional character's methods would come of such practical use in the real world?!
This is how he works. He uses a systematic method of observation and deduction(an exact science, he calls it) to arrive at astounding results invisible to a commoner's eyes. He takes note of even the most trivial of details and makes connections that at first seem random but become the only solution that fits with all the data at hand after his explanation of the reasoning behind the deduction!
His results when explained are so convincing, obvious and bonafide, yet the same look otherworldly when they are presented to us without the reasoning behind those conclusions. He can accurately tell all about you just by observing you. At the end of the day, he will have juiced out more from an examination of the subject than anyone else in the room. He has the very same data as we do and yet he is able to see that which is invisible to the rest of the world. This is what makes him so admirable in our eyes. This is what makes him the legend he is!

• Your opinion about the book :
I loved the Sherlock Holmes books and really enjoyed following the various mysteries that Watson and Holmes dealt with through the years. I fancy myself better at reaching the correct conclusion than Dr Watson is, although I am nowhere near as observant as Holmes.
I liked the range of problems: from the oddly eccentric, with a society for men with bright red hair to the boringly mundane that turned out to be something much more malicious. And with others like a lost hat leading to the case of a stolen jewel, every story of both Holmes' triumphs and failures was highly entertaining.
However, I would have liked to know more about what went on between Holmes and Moriarty. Doyle writes that they were sparring and the problems faced had been numerous and difficult, but doesn't go into details.
I would recommend his books to anyone who enjoys mystery and adventure and any budding sleuths.
hope it helps...
