Answer:

The cotton textile industry is one of the oldest and firmly established major organised industries of India.

Source of raw material - Cotton, fibre or yarn.

Condition of workers - India's market liberalization led to the foreclosure of much of the traditional handloom cotton industry and resulted in nearly 2.3 million workers losing their jobs. Many of these workers have remained unemployed. Managers of the modern mills attribute this to the older age of hand-loom workers and their inflexibility or inability to adjust to the mechanized cotton mills.

As much as 92 percent of the labor force in India is unionized. Some of the laborers of the cotton industry have gained employment in the textile industry, which with its labor force of 39 million is among the largest unionized industries.

Use of technology - Different machinesa are used for different processes.

Knitting Machines - used to knit yarn

Crochet Machines - used to crochet yarn

Lace Making Machines - used to weave thread into lace

Weaving Machines - used to weave thread, such as a loom

Tufting Machines - used to make textiles where fur is inserted into a base, like carpets or mittens

Quilting Machines - used to quilt textiles

Cloth Measuring Machines - used to measure cloth

Cloth Cutting Machines - used to cut cloth

Industrial Sewing Machines - large sewing machines

Monogramming Machines - used to create monogrammed fabric, such as towels with initials on them

Market - The sector contributed 15 per cent to the export earnings of India in 2017-18.

The production of raw cotton in India is estimated to have reached 34.9 million bales in Financial Year 2018.

Measure to improve its condition -

provide one-year moratorium for repayment of loans and interests.

launched a campaign to promote digital payment in the mission mode.

announces Minimum Support Price (MSP) to protect the interest of cotton and jute farmers to avoid distress sales.

implements various schemes to promote production of all the raw materials for textile industry which includes promotion of R&D, technology upgrades, skill upgrades, infrastructure support towards rearing sheds, testing labs, etc.

providing support for the production of raw jute under I-CARE project.
