Aspects of Capital Shifting of Andhra Pradesh
- Recently, the Government of Andhra Pradesh led by the Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy, came up with a proposal of dividing the capital of the state into three as per the functions which it is going to undertake.
- As per the plan, there will be three capitals for the state. The Administrative capital in Vishakapatnam, the Judicial capital in Kurnool and Amaravati (current Capital) to host assembly sessions.
- This has led to a widespread protest as the farmers who had earlier given their land to the government of Chandrababu Naidu for the development of Amaravati as a mega-city were afraid that the move could hamper the development and might not assure good return prices for their lands.
- Instead, the Government clarified that it wants to develop the state of Andhra Pradesh as a whole and not just confining growth to a single city. The development of only Amaravati would cause clustering of all offices and corporates near Amaravati and the remaining cities would be left aloof. The alternative plan proposed by the government is to make sure the development occurs entirely throughout the state, which could help people in the employment aspects also.
