Nylon is a synthetic fiber that was developed during WWII to substitute for silk. It was used for parachutes, and, famously, for "nylons,” women’s hosiery. It was used for women’s clothing, and nightwear up through the 1960’s until more varities of synthetics were developed. I am not aware of it being used in clothing these days, but nylon fibers are often used in carpeting. hope this helpful
