Starting in 1943, Ramakant Achrekar used to play club cricket. His only first-class cricket match was the All India State Bank VS Hyderabad match in 1963. Later he became a selector, for the Mumbai cricket team. In 1990 he was conferred the Dronacharya Award and in 2010 he was honoured with the Padma Shri.
